Wow. This was awesome, and I never really did the whole TBS breakdown in my head like that before. "Starcade" has been lost in the recesses of my memory for decades -- and goodness, was that fun. Braves baseball and Skip Caray, huge in my life (he was like the boring Caray flavor between Harry Caray's spiciness and Chip Caray's sweetness (I was an Orlando Magic fan and Chip was our Play-by-play guy for the first 10 years).
I'd also like to point out a few of my own fave TBS memories, which I might be wrong about, but I remember them this way!
-- :05 minutes later than all other channels. What a weird thing, but it was distinctly TBS, starting (and ending) their shows 5 minutes later than everyone else. Brilliant! Or insane! I have no idea.
-- "Mama's Family" -- I'm pretty sure this started there, and it was Saturday early evening viewing I think. Why I was home watching TV on a Saturday early evening instead of having an awesome Saturday outside, I don't know. But 5pm -- I enjoyed me some Mama. (Well, 5:05pm)
-- Atlanta Hawks Basketball: Seeing Dominique Wilkins IN-GAME dunks -- just insane. He's sooo underappreciated. As was Spud Webb.
Awesome trip down memory lane, all the while, whistling The Andy Griffith Show theme song, which was a show that bonded my father and I, just like those Braves games -- as a kid living in Florida without a baseball team of my own in the '80s.
There was so much to love about those 1980s TBS days! The :05 start time was brilliant IMHO, as it not only gave TBS shows a later start time for channel surfers flipping around, it also gave TBS shows their own time listing in TV Guide, which was a necessity in those days before onscreen channel guides and listings.
Have you read "The Franchise" it's the Mark Bowman book about the Braves. Some great chapters in there about Ted, TBS, Announcers of that era and more. Worth a read for any Braves fan. They just don't make billionaires like Ted anymore... (A line I never thought I'd write)
I have not read that one. I’ll have to check it out - Bowman’s a great Braves beat writer! Ted was definitely a throwback to owners of an earlier time before so many teams were owned by corporations or groups.

Oh man, I didn’t even think about the separate listings for TVs in the tv guide! Brilliant! I bet tv guide editors hated that channel!
